The Race

The Abbot Kinney One is a USATF-certified one-mile race presented by On and Electrolit and produced by the Venice Run Club.

Sign up to be among the first to run the Abbot Kinney One. Be part of an inclusive community of runners, from casual joggers and four-legged friends to athletes at the top of their field. All are welcome for a memorable day along one of California’s most iconic streets.

The route will begin at the intersection of Coeur d’Alene Avenue and Abbot Kinney Blvd and finish slightly after the intersection at Westminster Avenue and Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

Heat Schedule

The Abbot Kinney One mile race comprises eight heats ranging from the Friends and Family category to Elite athletes. The Abbot Kinney One is a community event. Everyone is invited to come and run the mile—a distance all ages and abilities can enjoy.

How do I gain access to the Elite heats?

Choosing to compete in the Elite wave, you will forgo eligibility for age group awards as only those participating in the Masters and Open waves will be eligible.

What time should I be at the starting line race morning?

We will be calling participants to assemble at the starting line 10 minutes before their assigned group wave time.

Will there be bathrooms on the course?

Yes, portable restrooms will be located in the athlete zone between the start line and W Washington Blvd.

What is the parking situation for the race?

There is plenty of street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, and pay lots nearby.

Can I listen to music (headphones, earbuds, phones, mp3s, etc.) during the race?

For your safety and for that of all participants, we recommend that you do not use any electronic devices while participating in the Abbot Kinney One.

Are there pre-determined locations to watch the race?

Abbot Kinney is beautiful so you can’t go wrong with any location but the second half of the race after the runners reach Venice Blvd & Abbot Kinney Ave is where the action is.

Is there a Kids Run?

Kids who are 11 years of age or younger must participate in our Friends & Family wave. It is preferable that kids under 11 run accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Is there a finisher medal?

There are no finisher medals.

Can bibs be transferred for the race?

No. Bibs are not transferable.

Can someone else pick up my race packet?

Yes, but the proxy must have a copy of your license and a copy of your race entry confirmation. No exceptions.

Can I pick up my race packet at the starting line?

No race day pick up.

When can I pick up my race packet?

Packet pick up will take place at the On Cabana (1428 Abbot Kinney Blvd, next door to the On LA store).

  • Friday, March 8: 11AM – 6PM
  • Saturday, March 9: 11AM – 6PM
Is the race registration fee refundable?

There are no refunds for this race.

Is there race day registration available?

Yes, but an Abbot Kinney One 2024 race t-shirt is not guaranteed.

Who is the organizer of the race?

The Abbot Kinney One, presented by On & Electrolit, is an event produced by the Venice Run Club.

Can I run in the Open race if I am in the Masters age category of 40 and older?

Yes, but note that only Masters runners participating in the Master’s wave will be eligible for Masters-specific awards.

Is there a bag check?

Location: Race Start Line (2700 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291)

  • Only clear bags will be accepted (safety purposes).
  • Limit: one bag per runner.
  • Start Time: 7:00 AM
  • We will have tape available for runners to write Full Name & Bib Number and attach to the bag.
  • Runners will not be allowed in the check bagged area.
  • Bag check area will be organized by Last Name.
  • The race will not be held responsible for any missing goods.
What is the Friends and Family Mile?

The Friends & Family wave consists of youth runners (11 years or younger) and also participants looking for a less competitive Abbot Kinney One experience. Beginners, back-of-the-packers, families, jogging strollers, and youth participants will have a chance to share and enjoy the course together and close out the event.

Will there be an after-party?

Yes! In addition to activities held throughout the day in the Abbot Kinney One festival area, Roosterfish will be hosting an afterparty from 11am-3pm.

Is there an awards ceremony? What are the prizes for top finishers?

Yes. The ceremony will take place at the festival village. There will be a rolling awards schedule throughout the day as the individual waves take place. Announced awards will be distributed to the overall winners of the Masters, Open, and Elite waves.

 

Is there a cash prize?

Yes, the prize breakdown is below.

  • Elite Womens 1st: 2,250, 2nd: 1,000, 3rd: 500
  • Elite Mens 1st: 2,250, 2nd: 1,000, 3rd: 500
  • Women Dog Mile 1st: 300, 2nd: 150, 3rd: 75
  • Men Dog Mile 1st: 300, 2nd: 150, 3rd: 75
  • Womens Masters 1st: 300, 2nd: 150, 3rd: 75
  • Mens Masters 1st: 300, 2nd: 150, 3rd: 75
  • Women’s Open 1st: 300, 2nd: 150, 3rd: 75

$200 bonus to any female who breaks a 4:35/mile
$200 bonus to any male who breaks a 4:00/mile

What timing system is being used for the race?

The race timing will be done utilizing Chronotrack. The timing sensors will be on the backside of your race number.

Will this be a timed event?

Yes. There will be both net and gun timing results provided for participants. Gun time results are used for award determination purposes.

Is this race course USATF Certified?

Yes, the Abbot Kinney One course is USATF certified.

What time does the race start?

The Abbot Kinney One, presented by On & Electrolit, utilizes a wave start method, and the associated start times are as follows:

  • 8:30 AM: Masters Men
  • 8:50 AM: Masters Women
  • 9:10 AM: Men’s Open
  • 9:30 AM: Womens Open
  • 9:50 AM: Men’s Elite (Invite or Submit Time)
  • 10:05 AM: Women’s Elite (Invite or Submit Time)
  • 10:20 AM: Dog Mile
  • 10:40 AM: Friends & Family (11-under), Strollers, Beginners
Where does the race start and finish?

The race starts at Coeur D’Alene Ave and Abbot Kinney Blvd Ave near W Washington Blvd in Venice. The race finishes a tad after Westminister Ave and Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice.

What does the entry fee entitle me to?

For their paid entry fee, participants will receive the following:

  • Official bib number for the race
  • Official Abbot Kinney One T-Shirt
